The Canyon is currently closed to all visitors, including driving tours.
Summer is one of our favorite seasons at the Lodge. June and July bring a steady stream of big retreats that many of us look forward to for months. Sure, it’s hot. But that just makes afternoons spent bobbing in the Frio River all the sweeter.
That’s why this announcement is one we’ve been trying not to make.
We are cancelling all summer retreats.
Here’s how we got there: Our summer program was already crumbling. Speakers were facing restrictions that made travel to the Lodge unlikely. Other contributors were withdrawing due to understandable concerns about the risk involved in journeying and gathering.
We also knew that to proceed with our regularly-scheduled summer plans would require myriad modifications that eventually compromise the integrity of what was being offered in the first place.
Registered guests will receive automatic refunds*. You don’t need to do anything.
This change is undeniably heavy and sad.
Yet it also represents a new reason for hope: clearing the deck of our original summer retreat program creates space for new possibilities. We’re hard at work on those now.
We’re working on a range of ideas: day-long retreats for those who can make it, small overnight gatherings, a series of Laity Lodge Home Deliveries, and more.
Whatever takes shape in the next few months, we need to be nimble. For now, we are taking it week-to-week. Hopefully, that will soon shift to month-to-month. Eventually, longer-term horizons will bring a little more predictability, allowing us to resume opening fully-formed retreat concepts to you months in advance.
The Lodge is shifting. We’re praying for the wisdom and grace to take it all in stride and to bring you all along with us. And we’re looking forward to seeing you back at the Lodge (sort of) soon!
*Refunds will be processed over the next two weeks, but some credit card companies may have additional processing time on their end before you can access your refund. Guests having paid by check will be receiving a refund check in the mail.
